Style Crush Saturday: Kat Graham

Style Crush:  Kat Graham
Known For:  Acting, Singing, Dancing, Modeling
Style:  Bold, Cutting-Edge, Colorful

This week's Style Crush is the beautiful Kat Graham.  Kat is an American actress, singer, and dancer best known for her starring role as Bonnie Bennett on The CW's hit TV show The Vampire Diaries.  Kat began acting at the age of six doing commercials for Barbie, K-mart, and Pop Tarts.  After being recognized for her dancing abilities at 15, Kat was hired as a back up dancer for Bow Wow, Missy Elliot, Pharrell, and even Jamie Foxx.  Building her acting résumé, Kat had guest roles on shows such as Lizzie McGuire, Malcolm in the Middle, The O.C.Hannah Montana, and was one of the "Fantanas" from the Fanta campaign.  Kat got her big break in 2009 when she was cast as Bonnie on The Vampire Diaries.  She won "Scene Stealer Female" at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards for her portrayal of the character.  Since then, Kat has released an EP titled "Against the Wall," starred in the dance movie Honey 2, and is working on her debut album as we speak.  Her first official single, titled "Power," from the debut album, was released earlier this year.

Kat has many interests, including acting, singing, dancing, and modeling, but one of my personal favorites is her fashion sense.  She jokes about growing up feeling awkward and nerdy and how hard she had to work to get to where she is today.  Known for her unpredictable, tomboyish glam, Kat is a show stopper on the red carpet and off.  The first to admit she had help along the way, Kat gives credit to her fiancé, Cottrell Guidry (also an actor/model), for helping her find her personal style.  She reminisces about wearing cut off shorts, knee high socks, and bright green sneakers while skateboarding to meet Cottrell at his work.   He used to tease her about her cool look, which led her to ask him to help her learn about fashion.  Little did he know he was helping to create a fashion icon.  Besides her show-stopping street style, Kat looks glamorous, and yet uniquely edgy, at every red carpet event.  I, for one, can't wait to see what she wears next.

My Style: Gold Digger

Today's Look:  is all about the gold!  To start the look off, I first chose the gold, knit sweater and thick, taupe scarf.  The scarf features a metallic gold coat which shimmers in the light and looks beautiful with the sweater.  If you're thinking of buying a new scarf for the holidays, I definitely recommend gold.  A gold scarf dresses up an outfit, goes with a lot, and adds sparkle.  Since the sweater is loosely knitted, it's see through. I chose a taupe tank top for coverage, as well as to match the taupe coloring of the scarf.  To contrast with the bright coloring of the gold, I wore navy skinny jeans.  Next, I chose taupe, suede ankle boots and a fringe purse.  Finishing off the look, I wore a leopard print ring, a gold band, and golden leaf-shaped, dangle earrings.

Outfit Details:  Sweater by Mine at Basement Marketplace (Flagstaff, Arizona), Pants by Levi's at Macy's (Scottsdale, Arizona), Tank Top from Forever 21 (Scottsdale, Arizona), Scarf by Karma at Basement Marketplace, Platform Boots by Jeffrey Campbell at nastygal.com, Purse by Steve Madden at nastygal.com, Leopard Ring from Charming Charlie (Scottsdale, Arizona),  Gold Band from Premiere Designs, Earrings were a gift.

Fashion Tip:  Gold and taupe are a terrific pair.  The combination is especially great for fall and winter!

Red Carpet Fashion: AMAs 2013

On Sunday, September 25, 2013, ABC hosted and aired its annual American Music Awards (AMAs).  The hottest musicians, actors/actresses, and TV personalities were in attendance.  Unlike the Grammys, whose awards are given based on the votes from members of the Recording Academy, the AMAs are determined by votes from the public and music buyers.  The show had unforgettable performances from Katy Perry, One Direction, Ariana Grande, Imagine Dragons, Pitbull & Kesha, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and many more!  You can watch the performances from the awards show here.  It was an exciting night filled with music, celebrities, and, of course, fashion.  Below, I included some of the most memorable outfits from the event.  Enjoy!

My Style: Little Black Dress

Today's Look:  is filled with sophistication and sprinkled with youth.  To start the look off, I chose the dress.  You could say it's vintage since it was passed down to me from my aunt.  When she gave it to me she told me it was an important dress.  It was her perfect LBD (little black dress) and held many magical memories.  I was thrilled to have been given it.  The dress is sleeveless with a heavy material that hangs nicely and sparkles like a starry night.  It's very pretty but a little long for my preference.  So, to update the modest dress and add a personal touch, I accessorized with a gray and silver belt at the waist to help shorten the dress, as well as add the glam factor.  Next, I chose the jacket.  I wanted something warm, fabulous, and longer length since it was a chilly, rainy day.  The black and grays in the animal print design went beautifully.  Since tights would have been somewhat conservative, I opted for sheer thigh-highs and platform boots to add some edge.  Finishing off the look, I wore silver hoop earrings, two silver rings, and a metallic clutch, all bedazzled obviously.  ;)

Outfit Details:  Coat by Potter's Pot at Basement Marketplace (Flagstaff, Arizona), Dress by Jump Apparel Co. (gift), Clutch by Melie at Black Hound Gallerie (Flagstaff, Arizona), Boots by Grey City at nastygal.com, Thigh Highs by Leggs Everyday at Sears (Prescott, Arizona), Hoop Earrings by Lucky Brand at Dillard's (Prescott, Arizona), Diamond Band by Brighton at Fancy That (Prescott, Arizona), "Love" Ring at Earth Bound Trading Co. (Flagstaff, Arizona), Belt was a gift.

Fashion Tip:  Every girl needs a perfect little black dress.  It's always classy, never trashy, and great for every occasion.

Style Crush Saturday: Chris Hemsworth

Style Crush:  Chris Hemsworth
Known For:  Acting, "Thor"
Style:  Masculine, Sleek, Conservative, Casual

This week's Style Crush is the swoon-worthy Chris Hemsworth.  Chris is a 30-year old Australian actor who is best known for his role as "Thor" in the movies Thor, The Avengers, and Thor:  the Dark World.  He grew up moving between Bulman, Australia (very rural with buffalo and crocodiles), and Melbourne, Australia (second most populated city in Australia), with his brothers Luke and Liam.  You could say he has some rugged, outdoors-man in him as well as sophisticated, city-boy.  Best of both worlds.  At the age of 21, Chris auditioned for Home and Away, a hit Australian soap opera.  Although, he did not get the role he originally auditioned for, he ended up getting called back to join the cast as another lead role.  He went on to appear in 184 episodes before leaving to pursue a career in the United States.  He landed his first American film role in the 2009 Star Trek as James T. Kirk's father.  In 2011, after impressing the Hollywood scene with his good looks and talents, Chris scored the role of his lifetime as Thor (beating out numerous up-and-coming actors, including his younger brother, Liam).  Since then, he has gone on to star in blockbusters, such as The Cabin in the Woods, Snow White and the Huntsman, Red Dawn, and Rush.

In spite of a booming career, around-the-world fame, and an ever-growing fan base, Chris is a strong, loyal family man.  He met Spanish actress/model Elsa Pataky in early 2010 through mutual representation.  The two instantly hit it off and married that December.  The happy couple had their first daughter India Rose in May, 2012.  They just announced that they are 3 months pregnant with their second child. Chris is very content with his work, but he admits his best accomplishment thus far is definitely being a father.  On the subject of fatherhood, Chris said,  "Being a father is certainly a task. But the best one that I could ever ask for. Being home, being with the family, that's what it's about"  (Daily Mail Reporter).  As if being insanely handsome and incredibly talented wasn't enough...sigh.  Juggling his fast-paced career and loving family, Chris is a very busy man.  On the red carpet, he always looks dapper and well-dressed, while casual and cool on his downtime.  Definitely a guys' guy.  Whether he's flexing his muscles on screen, turning heads at premieres and awards shows, or making jaws drop while out and about, Chris Hemsworth is a total hunk.

My Style: Femme Fatale

Today's Look:  is all about being feminine yet fierce.  This outfit contrasts a dark black top, clean white skinny jeans, and bold gold flourishes.   To start the look off, I chose the long-sleeve, black top featuring the words "FEMME FATALE, LOVE POTION N◦9."  For those who don't know, the term femme fatale refers to an old literature/art archetype known for being a mysterious, desirable woman who seduces men into dangerous and sometimes deadly situations.  Obviously, I don't think of myself as a femme fatale, but it sure is fun to rock the edgy top.  To match the top, I chose tall, heeled boots that have a fierce black-with-gold-buckle design.  Since the top and boots make a sexy pair, I wanted light pants to contrast and add a special pop to the outfit.  I chose white skinny jeans.  To add a touch of the wild side, I wore a  gold necklace with a bedazzled, jaguar pendant.  Finishing off the look, I wore two gold and black bracelets, two rings, and black, stud earrings

Outfit Details:  Top & Boots c/o Charlotte Russe ,  Jeans by Miss Me at Dillard's (Prescott, Arizona), Purse from Sage Brush Trading Co. (Flagstaff, Arizona), Necklace from Charming Charlie (Tucson, Arizona), Earrings from Aeropostale (Tucson, Arizona), Spiked Bracelet at urbanog.com, Bangle Bracelet at Kohl's (Prescott, Arizona), Rings from Premiere Jewelry Designs.

Fashion Tip:  Tall heeled boots are a sexy fall essential.  They work great with skinny jeans, scarves, and peacoats.

My Style: What a 10 Looks Like

Today's Look:  includes a sassy graphic-tee, edgy ankle-boots, and a pair of ripped skinny jeans.  To start the look off, I first chose the baseball-cut top.  The t-shirt has black quarter length sleeves and features the saying "THIS IS WHAT A 10 LOOKS LIKE."   Next, to match the tomboyish vibe of the top, I chose ripped jeans.  Now, instead of going the typical converse-and-ponytail route that many girls would, I chose to add some city chic to the look.  I chose taupe, gold-chained wedge ankle-boots, a sleek black clutch, and sharp dark sunglasses.  Finishing off the look, I wore two rings, a gold infinity bracelet, and taupe hoop earrings.

Outfit Details:  Top & Chained Wedge Booties c/o Charlotte Russe , Jeans from ae.com, Clutch at oasap.com, Sunglasses by Wet Seal at Blink (Anaheim, California), Bracelet at Dillard's (Prescott, Arizona), Earrings at Target (Prescott, Arizona), Rings from Premiere Designs Jewelry.

Fashion Tip:  Wedge ankle boots look awesome with skinny jeans, thigh-highs, dresses, skirts and even shorts.
