My Style: Skulls & Stripes

Today's Look:  is all about the sparkly, graphic crop-top and pastel-striped skirt from Charlotte Russe.  To start the look off, I first chose the light pink, skull top.  I love how the top has such a sweet, feminine color that contrasts with the edginess of the skull.  Next, I chose the pastel-colored skater skirt.  The skirt is embellished with buttons down the front and a woven belt.  Since the belt comes with the skirt, I chose to wear my brown, high-heeled sandals to match.  Continuing with the boho accessories to contrast with my preppy skirt and pink top, I chose to wear my crocheted, side-sling purse.  Finishing off the outfit, I wore a studded bracelet, bow earrings, and two rings.

Fashion Tip:  When wearing a striped skirt, try to have the top match one or two of the colors of the skirt.  If the skirt is black and white, try to wear a different color top or different stripes or prints to add variety to the outfit.

My Style: Fringe Crop-Top

Today's Look:  is all about the black, fringe crop-top.  To start the look off, I chose my crochet, sheer top, black, spaghetti-strapped tank top, and burgundy skinny jeans.  Since the tops are black, I chose my black, zipper-embellished boots, and silver-studded backpack to match.  To continue using silver as the metal throughout the outfit, I chose my silver cross necklace, bracelet, stud earrings, and three rings.  Finishing off the look, I chose my black/silver,  round-lens sunglasses and curled my hair.

Fashion Tip:  Adding colored jeans to an otherwise monochromatic outfit, not only adds a splash of color, but also adds variety and flare.

My Style: Out with a Bang

Today's Look:  is all about being quirky, but not at the price of being uncool.  To start the look off, I chose my bedazzled "Bang!" sweatshirt and high-waisted, bleach denim shorts.  The sweatshirt has a basic cut with long sleeves and round neckline.  Since the weather is still warm, I pushed up the sweatshirt's sleeves.  The shorts are not only white-washed, but are also embellished with silver, dome studs on one side.  I like how the dark black contrasts with the white bleached shorts.  Next, I chose my cut-out ankle boots with silver buckles and my silver-studded, black backpack to match.  Finishing off the look, I wore a black/silver bracelet, three rings, "Pow!" earrings, and curled my hair to add that last feminine touch.

Fashion Tip:  Cut-out ankle boots work nicely with shorts, pants, skirts, and even dresses.  They can be used in place of any regular ankle boot or sandal in an outfit.  Socks are normally not worn with cut-out boots, but occasionally tights are.

My Style: Dr. Martens Special

Today's Look:  has multiple statement pieces, from the velvet-tiger sweatshirt, spiked backpack, white Dr. Martens, to the "Fearless" charm bracelet.  Today's outfit is special, because my brother, who is a professional photographer and videographer, is in town visiting.  He was the photographer of today's photo-shoot.  To start the look off, I chose my light gray, embellished sweatshirt and white-washed, charcoal skinny jeans.  Next, I chose my white leather boots, spiked backpack, and white/black, charm bracelet.  Since the outfit is edgy, I wore my hair in loose curls to soften the look.  Finishing off the outfit, I wore three rings, black stud earrings, and cat-eye sunglasses.

Fashion Tip:  If you're in the United States and considering buying Dr. Martens, it's somewhat of an ordeal.  Not only is it difficult to decide what color to pick, but it is also difficult to figure out what size to buy.  Dr. Martens come in so many different shapes, colors, and patterns, and only are sold in U.K. whole sizes. Even though so many funky options are out there, when buying Dr. Martens, I recommend going with a solid color in the classic cut.  I'd say red and black are the two most popular colors of the brand.  Now, with which shoe size to buy, it can be tricky.  I researched the comparisons of U.K. sizes to U.S. and came to the conclusion that the U.K. sizes are one below the U.S. sizes.  Therefore meaning, a U.K. 7 is equal to a  U.S. 8.  I am a 6-6.5 so I bought a U.K. 5 and it fits great.  Even if you order your boots online, I definitely recommend going into a local store to try on a pair, making sure you like the fit.

My Style: The 411 on Navy with Black

Today's Look:  is all about breaking the rules.  One of my favorite fashion rules to break is the "Never wear navy with black" rule.  Many people in business wear navy suits and black shoes and don't match them with a black belt, or wear brown shoes with black socks.  When doing so, they are considered to be doing a faux pas or fashion suicide.  When done correctly, the colors navy blue and black look great together.

To start the look off, I chose my navy high-low blouse and gray, whitewashed miniskirt.  I loved how the top was loose, as well as long in the back and how the form-fitting skirt looked nice underneath it.  In honor of back to school, I wore my black, studded backpack and black high-heeled ankle boots to add some edge.  Finishing off the look, I wore a beaded pendant necklace, a silver fish bracelet, three rings, and a spiked, black headband.

Fashion Tip:  When wearing navy with black,  make sure to pull each color into the outfit.  For example I pulled the black ankle boots in by wearing a black backpack.  Also, a loose high-low blouse is perfect to wear with a tight mini skirt.  The blouse not only makes the skirt more modest, but it also makes a unique outfit.

My Style: How to Rock High-Heeled Ankle Boots

Today's Look:  is all about the camouflage ankle boots.  I have been wanting a pair of high-heeled ankle boots for awhile, but I never found the perfect ones until I saw these.  I love the coloring, the design, and how they're edgy but not overbearing.  To start the look off, I chose my lace-up boots, green skinny jeans, and embellished gray top.  I chose the From NY to L.A. top because I wanted something with writing, but not too much design so it wouldn't take away from the shoes.  Next, I chose my double pendant necklace and big silver hoop earrings.  Finishing off the look, I wore a silver watch, two rings, a gray and black headband, and my black fringe purse.

It has been debated about who came up with the heeled ankle boot design first and who did it better.  The top two contestants are Jeffrey Campbell and Steve Madden.  These two top shoe designers went to battle.  Jeffrey Campbell even went as far as to sue Steve Madden for allegedly copying his design.  Personally, I love both brands and both designs.  I would love to hear what you think.  Feel free to leave a comment!   Work cited and more information about the case found here.

Fashion Tip:  I know I have said when wearing camo clothing don't pair the camo piece with green, but with shoes it's different.  Camo shoes are rare and work very well with green articles of clothing without looking too army-ish.
