My Style & Travel: Pu’uhonua o Honaunau

Our first full day on the Big Island of Hawaii was amazing. Some local residents, or kama’aina in Hawaiian, told us newcomers, or malihinis, that we must try breakfast at Caffe Florian on Mamalahoa Hwy. After a delicious breakfast of a Veggie Egger and a MacNut Pesto Bagel, we visited Pu’uhonua o Honaunau, or Place of Refuge, learning old Hawaiian ways and loving the rich history.

You will also want to visit the beach area next door called Honaunau, or nicknamed “Two Steps,” which is part of Kealakekua Bay and world renowned for snorkeling. We enjoyed fantastic snorkeling and even played with some dolphins in the wild! For dinner, the kama’aina told us to try the Big Island Grill in Kailua-Kona for their Loco Moco and BBQ. I tried the teriyaki chicken and flourless chocolate cake. My taste buds were on cloud 9. I'm definitely going there again before I head home.

To enjoy this day, I selected a beautiful bikini by Khongboon Swimwear, shorts by Hollister, faux suede bag by T-Shirt & Jeans, and a pretty fringe sweater by Chicwish. The evenings can get slightly chilly with the ocean breeze; I’d bring a light sweater for any evening excursions. My favorite jewelry accents for this styling are the Pura Vida Bracelets--amazing bracelets made in Costa Rica. I hope you read my posts as the days progress; I will tell you more about what to do on the enchanting Big Island of Hawaii. Aloha, Shelly
