My Style: Snakeskin and Stripes

Today’s Look:  showcases my new favorite pair of boots by Grey City.  Grey City is a shoe brand featuring unique designs that have quality and edge.  The company was started by two best friends and is headquartered in Seattle, Washington.  One of the partners, Kyle, happens to live in Scottsdale, Arizona, and I was lucky enough to meet up with him and see a few of their latest designs.  I was thrilled to collaborate with Grey City and highlight these awesome snakeskin and leather ankle boots.  I find that Grey City shoes are beautifully designed to every last detail.  While styling the look, I tried to keep in line with Grey City’s vision of fresh, relevant street style, with equal amounts of chic and cool.  First, I chose a sophisticated, simple striped shift dress and paired it with a distressed, oversized denim jacket.  Since the boots have a wild side, I selected bohemian inspired jewelry and a classy black purse.  Lastly in keeping with the edgy street style of the boots, we took the photos in Old Town Flagstaff down an alley with lots of brick and ivy.  Grey City shoes are sold at top stores like Free People, Revolve, and Lulu’s; hope you check the brand out.  I know you’ll love them as much as I do :)  Xoxo, Shelly

Fashion Tip:  In my opinion, oversized, distressed denim jackets are where it's at!

My Style: Shake Your Pom Poms Part 2

Today's Look: continues to celebrate this season's hot pom pom trend.  These shorts, from the awesome company Missguided, are the perfect blend of quality and style.  They are lined, soft, and comfortable.  The floral monochrome print with pom pom detail creates an eye-catching design.  To style the shorts, I added a fitted, classic black crop top and a bold, statement necklace, carrying through the circular theme.  Sometimes using a similar geometric shape throughout the styling creates a cohesive outfit.  Circles can also be found in the leather studded bracelet and the round sunnies.  To complete the look with some edginess (edgy and fun are always the two things I keep in mind while styling), I wore the Campus Queen black platform booties by Dirty Laundry.  These kicks are a good value and comfortable.  If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you have a pretty good idea that I adore shoes.  Let me know about your favorite shoe brands and styles; I love everything about shoes and probably should have named my blog Arizona Girl Obsessed with Shoes :)  Jk.  That's way too long.  Hey, to see part one of the pom pom trend/collaboration with Missguided, see my post from July 15th.  Anyway, tomorrow I'm off to Scottsdale for my first fitting for my bridesmaid dress (for my brother's wedding).  Wish me luck (and that the dress isn't awful like most bridesmaid dresses are notorious for being!)  Xoxo, Shelly

Beauty Tip:  A matte on black gloss French manicure is the current "it" mani; classy with an equal amount of edgy.  Try it now by watching a tutorial I found on YouTube here!  Or as many bloggers have discovered, use stick-on or glue-on nail kits that have improved in recent years.  They look great and are easy to apply.

Love my new Lemon Balm Marinade clip iPhone case from Clique Boutique.

My Style: Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls

Today’s Look:  was photographed in front of an 80 foot waterfall that is part of a nature trail at the luxurious Loew’s Ventanna Canyon Resort in Tucson, Arizona.  Every summer my family and I enjoy staying here and experiencing all that Tucson has to offer.  From delicious food at local restaurants to glamorous scenery and fabulous shopping, it's a trip I always enjoy.  This year was also special because I visited one of my favorite stores that just opened a location in Tucson, Immediate Fashion Company.  I took pictures of the visit and definitely scored some amazing goodies that I can't wait to share!  This crop-top is from Immediate and was the starting piece of today's look.  I love the vibrant sunflower print and cut of the top; so to complement the focal point, I paired the top with a simple black skater skirt and pair of black platform booties. Accessorizing, I chose a thick, gold chain necklace and cut-out metal lace rimmed sunglasses in gold amber. To bring out more of the browns in the sunflowers, I chose a fun phone case in brown with tan polka dots. To top it off, these photos were taken in between monsoon rain showers in 106 degree weather—soooooo I apologize if I look a little wrecked.  Please let me know your secret for fabulous hair during the hot, humid summers or hairstyles that you recommend.  I would love to hear your thoughts :) Xoxo, Shelly

Beauty Tip:  On a humid, hot day, a side braid is the perfect solution to unruly hair.  Also, for monsoon season here in AZ, it's a must!

My Style: Bohemian Rhapsody

Today's Look: was taken in beautiful Old Town Scottsdale on a humid, 102 degree afternoon.  Yes, I wilted.  Literally.  Northern Arizona is not nearly as hot as "The Valley" during the summer months, so I'm not acclimated to real heat.  Lucky for me, I received a lovely embellished chevron striped romper from Charlotte Russe that was perfect for a warm summer day. To give a more bohemian styling, which you know I love, I added a soft, extra-long jersey cardigan from SirenLondon.  SirenLondon is an e-retailer with headquarters located in Warwickshire, England.  Specializing in indie, vintage-style, hand-selected clothing,  they have an eye for trends and a great selection of what's current.  I definitely recommend checking them out!  To add more boho flare, I selected a pretty gold and black beaded hair-jewelry clip by artist Semira Mustafic, creator of Hair Floaters, black sling-back booties, various artistic rings, gold earrings, and a cuff bracelet.  Hope you're all staying cool this summer.  Xoxo, Shelly

Fashion Tip:  Long, black cardigans have a super power of being not only a stylish piece in any closet, but also being very flattering to a woman's curves.  I had been looking for one for awhile when I found this beauty.  The Long Tall Whisper Cardigan from SirenLondon could not be more perfect!
