Point Dume, Malibu, CA

Last week I took trip to beautiful California to see some family. My grandmother is currently healing from a couple of surgeries, so the trip was more of an emergency. While there, I had a wishlist of spots to see during downtime. My grandma only had enough energy to see us about an hour a day, making time to explore. First on my list of must-sees was Point Dume in Malibu.

My favorite things about Point Dume were the stunning view, the numerous surfers, and the lively wildlife. We saw at least two dozen surfers while we were there. The waves were awesome! There were also lots of dolphins jumping out of the water. Heads up, if you plan to get down to the water, it is a steep hike. The trails along the top are easy and beautiful though!

Travel Tip: If you put in only Point Dume into Maps, it may bring you to a random, gated open field. I recommend putting in “Cliffside Dr & Birdview Ave, Malibu, CA 90265”. This brings you closest to the trail and beachside parking along Cliffside Dr. Parking is limited, so be patient and brace yourself.

Best Time to Visit: I visited in mid June, and the flowers were past their prime. It appears that the best time to visit Point Dume is mid March to see all the yellow flowers in full bloom. I went around 7PM. It was beautiful and not too crowded. I suggest going at least an hour before sunset.

What is your favorite beach in California? One of my goals is to make it to Laguna Beach one of these days! Feel free to check out my other posts about the best beaches in California: MalibuVenicePalos Verdes, and Redondo Beach. Hope you are having a great summer! Xoxo, Shelly
