Costume: SpongeShell SquarePants

Ever wonder how to dress up on Halloween and stay true to yourself? I have always been the girl that goes more quirky and cute rather than serious and sexy for my costumes. The first step to picking your outfit is brainstorming your favorite characters and celebs from shows, cartoons, movies, pop culture, etc. After you have a list of your top costume picks, scan your closet for pieces that will inspire you and work in a costume. I normally gather a few photos of the character or person I am trying to dress up as to get inspiration. I think personalized, unique costumes are cooler than store-bought ones. Plus, it guarantees no one else will show up wearing the exact same thing as you. Final step, make, borrow, or thrift the remaining pieces that will complete your envisioned ensemble. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time when planning your dream costume.

For my SpongeBob SquarePants inspired costume, believe it or not, I found each of the items in my closet. I bought the SpongeBob "Nerdy Pants" crop sweatshirt at a mall years ago in Tucson, Arizona.  The memory stands out to me, because I had to convince my mom that it would add to my wardrobe. I distinctly remember her asking me, "When will you actually wear this?" Well, 6 years later I'm showing her! Hi, Mom. Love youuuu. The creeper shoes are from my early blogging years. I love these shoes. They are edgy, comfortable, and uncommon. Whenever I wear them, people ask where they are from. I like how they add an edgy touch to the fun look, while representing SpongeBob’s bulky black shoes. The “nerd” glasses are from Hot Topic, because I was basic in high school and went as a nerd one year. Sigh. The skirt is from White Crow. I love how the skirt adds a feminine accent to the look and is close to the color of SpongeBob’s pants. The socks are from Soxxy. I think knee high socks and thigh high socks are always a great addition to a Halloween costume. It ups the cute, feminine factor.

This Halloween, I spent time with my family. We went around sightseeing Halloween-decorated homes and visited one well-kept graveyard before the sun went down. We stopped to snap some photos in front of the above house. This house goes all out for different holidays. The owner was so nice and seemed happy that we appreciated his hard work. If you look closely in the photos, you can spot him through the doorway, chilling in his orange onesie. I'm not even kidding. Look! He is there. haha The rest of the evening consisted of finishing Stranger Things 2 and handing out candy to young children. It was a very nice Halloween. :) I hope you had a wonderful holiday as well. What costume(s) did you wear this year? I’d love to hear about your Halloween celebrations in the comments! Xoxo, Shelly
